Come and join Edinburgh paper and book artist Isabell Buenz for a series of fun and relaxing workshops for all abilities and anybody with an interest in upcycling and art. During the months of October to December you will have the opportunity to explore the world of  ’Altered Books’ or ‘Book Sculptures’ whilst helping to rescue second-hand books from landfill!

During each 3-hour workshop you will learn to transform old and discarded books into pieces of
sculptural art, functional items, or exclusive presents. You will create your own unique treasure
using simple techniques with surprising results.

Learn how to fold, tear, cut, glue, stamp, paint and stitch the pages of your chosen book. Decorate
your creations with collage, pockets, small 3D objects, papier-mâché, and other embellishments.
Each workshop will focus on a specific aspect of book art. The workshops can be taken in isolation;
however, by attending more workshops, you will be able to develop your skills and challenge
yourself further.

In this workshop you will transform a hard back book into a beautiful keepsake box. This box could
make a special present or be the packaging for a small item. Time permitting, you could fill the box
with paper flowers or other decorative objects made from the book’s pages. Whatever route you
take, you will create a unique and useful treasure.

Participants should bring a second hand hardback book with a plain or decorative cover,
depending on their taste.  We have some reclaimed books for use if you don't have any books that you can use.  In addition, the following are optional: card (from cereal packs), embellishments.

Tea, coffee and homemade cakes are provided to fuel your creativity!
