In this fascinating workshop you will focus on creating a diorama, which is a 3 dimensional, miniature representation of a scene, an illustration of a story or an artistic interpretation of an event. You will learn some simple techniques as the basis for the transformation of a discarded or pre-loved book into your unique sculptural piece of art.
This 3 hour workshop offers plenty of time to design and create your own individual story, using
simple techniques with surprising results, using the contents of your chosen book, you will
explore how to create a small new world on the cover or within the pages.
Learn to interpret your book’s story by folding, tearing, cutting, glueing and stitching pages and
other material. Add small 3D objects, papier-mâché and other embellishments to make this truly
yours.
WHAT TO BRING TO THE WORKSHOP
While most materials and tools are provided, you should bring one or two second hand books you
would like to transform. These could be either hard or soft back books but you might want to
consider the title/ contents of the book as basis for your story/ diorama. In addition, the following are optional: card, any paper scraps (old envelopes and magazines, tissue, wrapping or other paper), embellishments such as feathers, buttons, sequins, etc.
Tea, coffee and homemade cake is included.
