Come and join Edinburgh paper and book artist Isabell Buenz for a series of fun and relaxing workshops for all abilities and anybody with an interest in upcycling and art. During the months of October to December you will have the opportunity to explore the world of  ’Altered Books’ or ‘Book Sculptures’ whilst helping to rescue second-hand books from landfill!

During each 3-hour workshop you will learn to transform old and discarded books into pieces of
sculptural art, functional items, or exclusive presents. You will create your own unique treasure
using simple techniques with surprising results.

Learn how to fold, tear, cut, glue, stamp, paint and stitch the pages of your chosen book. Decorate
your creations with collage, pockets, small 3D objects, papier-mâché, and other embellishments.
Each workshop will focus on a specific aspect of book art. The workshops can be taken in isolation;
however, by attending more workshops, you will be able to develop your skills and challenge
yourself further.

In this workshop we will focus on a wide range of folding techniques as the basis for the  transformation of discarded or pre-loved books into unique sculptural or functional pieces of art. This 3 hour workshop offers plenty of time to design and create your own unique item, using simple folds and cuts.

Participants should bring one or two second hand books they would like to transform. These could
be either hard or soft back books.  We have a selection of reclaimed books for use if you don't have any you can use.  In addition, the following are optional: any paper scraps (tissue, wrapping or other paper), embellishments such as feathers, buttons, sequins, etc.

Tea, coffee and homemade cakes are provided to fuel your creativity!
