Come and join lampshade designer and maker, Amanda Wells, for a two day workshop to discover the artisan craft of gathered lampshade making. Over the two days, attendees will learn how to:
- Cotton bind a lampshade frame in preparation for covering
- Calculate and prepare your chosen fabric for the top cover
- Gather and pleat the fabric onto the frame using traditional lampshade stitching
- Make and insert a pleated lining- again using traditional sewing techniques
- Cut and apply self-made bias binding to finish your shade beautifully
There will also be lots of extra tips and techniques shared along the way too!
No experience necessary. Please be aware that there will be lots of hand sewing. It is incredibly satisfying and you will be amazed at the outcome!
All lampshade materials are included except the fabric. Attendees to supply fabric of their choice. You will need 0.5m of fabric for the top cover and 0.5m for the lining. The chosen fabric needs to be light weight to medium in weight- I recommend dress making fabric for gathered shades as it will be much easier to sew. Please do get in touch if you would like help and advise sourcing your fabric. I have several favourite suppliers, I can also confirm whether your fabric is suitable.
Group sizes are small (4 people), so there’s plenty of individual guidance and time to ask questions.
Refreshments and home bakes will be available throughout the weekend. Please bring your own lunch.
