Your tutor for this weekend workshop will be Alan from Alien Spoons who has been teaching wood carving since 2015 and has taught over a thousand people how to carve safely and efficiently.

This weekend workshop is for beginners and over the two days you will have enough time to make a few different carved items and learn a variety of techniques. You will learn how to use wood carving knives safely along with practising techniques that make carving relatively easy on the body.

You will be using freshly felled birch from a local woodland that Alan manages sustainably and primarily for wildlife. You will start this workshop carving flowers and then move onto spoons, learning how to use the straight and hook knives. You will then be able to choose to do other projects like coat hooks, spreaders, shrink pots, cups and dala horses.

We will have a short lunch break halfway through both days so that people can stay focused. Picker's Bothy cafe is next door and serves a delicious range of lunches or you are welcome to bring a packed lunch.

At the end of the weekend you will have a variety of carved items and should feel confident enough to use the tools safely at home if you would like to do more carving (most people do as it is a very calming and mindful activity). Additional blanks and tools will be on sale for carving more at home.

Tea, coffee and homemade cakes are included to keep your strength up!
