Join Katy Galbraith of Recycle Me Mosaics in a two-day course learning the basics of making a mosaic picture or mirror in discarded ceramics. This workshop is ideal for beginners, improvers and curious crafters and offers a fun-filled weekend with step-by-step guidance in a small group.

Birds, fish, flowers are all possibilities, and can be colourful or monochrome, depending on your own style and the materials available

A selection of ceramics, tiles, nuggets, and glass will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own for your project, giving it a more personal feel, more akin to a traditional patchwork quilt idea, where only you will know the provenance of the pieces. Tools and other materials are also provided. Some of the boards used may not be suitable for outdoors.

Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day. Please bring a packed lunch, or there is a café nearby.
 
The course is suitable for everyone, including complete beginners.

Day one - Demonstration of cutting techniques, incorporating the tools used and the materials and adhesives which are suitable for mosaics. Participants will start on their main project
Day two - In the morning, completing the main project will be the priority, and making a small additional piece on a small board, time permitting. In the afternoon, everyone will grout their projects and clean them up!
 
Katy is a British mosaicist living in Perthshire, Scotland. She has been working as a professional mosaic artist for over 15 years and is a professional member of BAMM (British Association of Modern Mosaic). Flowers in abundance feature in most of her exhibition pieces, as well as in private commissions. Her mosaics are found in the National Museum of Scotland, at the Bield Centre, near Perth and in many private collections. While many of her pieces are considered ‘decorative art,’ she also enjoys making mosaics with a more practical purpose such as kitchen and bathroom splashbacks, mirrors, tabletops, and garden items. She has taken part in international projects in Cyprus, Germany, Italy, Tunisia and Morocco and has taught mosaics in Cyprus and Spain. In producing her mosaics, she aims to be true to herself and her interest in recycling and sustainability by incorporating many recycled materials. Katy believes that the true magic about mosaic and especially the reuse of alternative materials is the ability to play with different colours and then observe how the tiles reflect and play with the light.
